Michael Schwien is a staff nurse currently working in Lankenau Medical Center’s Emergency Department. He has worked as an emergency room nurse for a level II trauma center for three years. Michael is a graduate of DeSales University, where he received a BSN through their accelerated nursing program. He has been a member of the Emergency Nursing Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and the Delaware County Anti-Trafficking Coalition. Since beginning a human trafficking protocol with Main Line Health Systems, Michael has educated healthcare providers on human trafficking in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, Villanova’s annual research symposium in 2017, Unveiling the Truth Conference at Bryn Mawr Hospital, and Michael will be the keynote speaker for the 2018 Main Line Health Research Day. Him and his colleagues’ work in the development of an evidence-based project on the benefits of educating emergency department staff on human trafficking has been accepted by the Journal of Emergency Nursing.
