Prominent local experts will share their extensive knowledge on how to prevent and recognize human trafficking in day-to-day life.

ASTON, PA – Neumann University’s Center for Leadership is set to host an informative panel discussion on human trafficking on Thursday, September 20 from 12:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. The event is entitled: “Recognizing and Preventing Human Trafficking in Our Communities.” Selected experts, introduced by Danielle McNichol, Director of the Center for Leadership, will take the stage of Neumann’s Meagher Theatre to discuss the issue of human trafficking at length. The specialists will be focusing on practical awareness and prevention tips for both individuals and larger groups or organizations.
“Law enforcement can only do so much to stop an age-old global issue like human trafficking,” said McNichol. “It is our job to remain educated and aware of simple things that we can do every day to help. By standing up to this problem together, we will be much more effective in combatting human trafficking and the tragedy that comes with it.”
A wide range of the aspects of human trafficking will be covered in this discussion, giving audience members perspective from legal professionals, law enforcement, medical professionals and victims’ advocates. The opening session will focus on human trafficking awareness and prevention, with presentations by Kat Copeland, District Attorney of Delaware County; Pearl Kim, former Senior Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania; Sarah Robinson, Esq., Fellow at the Institute to Address Commercial Sexual Exploitation at Villanova University’s Charles Widger School of Law; Mick McKeown of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; Rich Cordivari and Charles Bohnenberger of Allied Universal; and Alexis Krieger, Victim Specialist and CJ Jackson, Special Agent for the FBI.
Following a short break, the discussion will turn to available resources and services, with presentations from Joy Medori of the Delaware County Coalition Against Trafficking (DCCAT); Candice Linehan, Assistant Director of the Delaware County Women against Rape Service Provision; Blake Cohen, medical advocate from Delaware County’s Domestic Abuse Project; and a final presentation on Hospital Trainings and Protocol led by Michael Schwien, a registered nurse in the emergency department of Lankenau Medical Center.
